Scrabble is played by two to four players where they compete in forming words spelled out by letters on a 225 square board with lettered tiles on the interlock like those in a crossword puzzle. Each letter has a different point value and only one can fit in a grid space of the 100 letter tiles.
To play the board game, players are required to draw seven tiles from a pool at the beginning and fill their supply after each turn with tiles in the pool and those of other players kept secret so that a player can only see their tiles and those on the board.
For words to score, point values of their letters are added, then multiplied by any of 61 premium squares that may be covered such as double letter, triple letter, double word, and triple word.
You can improve your games by learning a few useful entries other than memorizing long lists of unusual words to win bragging rights as a casual player.
Always remember to make use of the double and triple squares to influence your score on almost every word as well as looking for the 50 extra points you get for using all your tiles on one play also referred to as ‘bingo’.
