Traffic Myths (part 1 Of 7)
Traffic Myth #1 Submit your website to tons of search engines and you will get rich!
BUZZZZ! WRONG!
Ever seen those ads, they tell you to submit your website to 7,000 search engine and you just have to sit back and collect the money.
This is totally false. But don’t worry, it claims its fair share of victims. Some of the companies that advertise this service will even trick you into signing up for a monthly or annual fee, and they allegedly keep subscribing your links to various search engines and directories. This is totally false and if you fall for it, expect to lose money. But unfortunately people still fall for this little scam and thats why you might see the ad pop up from time to time.
Pure and simple, this technique doesn’t work! There are lots of wanna be’s out there that think they have the next google or yahoo, but honestly its too hard nowadays, the major ones have now put their foot down and have little if not no competition. These 3 without a doubt are Google, Yahoo and MSN. Many of the other minor search engines out there (there are probably 10,000 or so) wont even come close to competing. And they might only get one or two visitors a day anyway, if that.
What alot of people don’t understand is that if you post your website in a directory or search engine it doesn’t guarantee people are going to see it an click it. If you are submitting to any other search engine out there, chances are it just gets lost in cyberspace like a worthless piece of tumble weed through the desert. People have no chance of finding your site by doing this.
Also if you think by adding your site to these dormant search engines, google will index you higher in the SERP’s you are totally wrong. Google trawls around the net constantly looking for new information, not old lame stuff. If your site is hanging out in a place like this it holds no importance.
Also paying some to list your site in a search engine is a waist of money. Google looks more for your link other ways, like on another high ranking site full of good content. Plus any time your site is updated Google will acknowledge this. You don’t have to keep submitting and resubmitting pages every time you create a new one, that just doesn’t work.
Make sure if you see an someone advertising to submit your link to 10,000 search engine move along, it spells danger. You do not need to pay someone to submit your link to directory sites or other search engines.
