It’s no surprise that we’re all so used to advertising – it (for the most part) pops up everywhere we go, with products and services new and familiar thrust into our faces in order to sway our purchases.
And, for the most part, it works. So, with this in mind, advertising is an excellent way for businesses to not only sell their products more efficiently but get their name out there (or simply stay at the forefront of the minds of big spenders).
Although it may seem like it, advertising is not exactly a simple thing for businesses to simply jump into – there are quite a few forms of advertising that can be found online, and in this article, we take a look at them to help you better decide what form of advertising might be right for you.
Internet advertising basics
After you’ve set up the domain for your new business, you might already be wondering how you can spread the word about your products or services. Advertising is a tried and true means of doing, but the complexity of this decision actually lies in all of the options available to a business owner.
For example, a certain industry or customer-base might require you to choose from a specialized range of advertising mediums to maximize return, whether that be social media advertising, display advertising, or pay-per-click advertising.
Let’s get started on display advertising, though. Display advertising is a form of online paid advertising that implements a lot of images and text in order to grab people’s attention.
This might take the form of banners at the top of a page, landing pages, and the infamous pop-up. Although they do well to grab people’s attention, display ads differ from other forms of online advertising in that they don’t appear on search results.
Despite this, they’re still a hugely popular form of advertising – display ads are often used to divert attention to a business’s product, and it has been statistically proven as an invaluable way to entice customers.
Other popular forms of advertising
Although display ads are (by design) the most obvious form of advertising, there are few more popular forms of advertising that you should look into, particularly if you’re investing in online marketing and advertising.
Another good advertisement avenue is on social media – with most people operating some kind of social media account, there is a large market segment out there that is potentially available to see your ads, and it’s a good idea to make use of it.
There are actually two types of social media ads: the first is organic advertising, where a company becomes recognized through shares and likes, and paid advertising, where they outright pay for advertisements that pop up on social media sites like Instagram and Facebook.
Finally, the last of the most recognizable forms of internet advertising is pay-per-click, otherwise known as PPC. PPC is a type of advertising where advertisers only have to pay for the ad if they are clicked on by a user – this can be highly useful for instances where many users see an ad, but only one actually has an interest and decides to click on it.
Which type of online advertising is for you?
With forms of online advertising being so diverse, it can be hard to know what you should go for. If this is the case, dipping your toe in might be a good idea – try a few methods and see what works for you, and then you can take it a little bit further if you find success. But at the end of the day, there’s also no reason why you can’t try a few out and see how you go!
